There are two ways you can be scammed on the Russian Bride web sites.

The first is to be scammed by the website itself. There are many websited that are set up from the beggining to scam you. They will have employees of the web site responding to your letters instead of the girl in the picture responding among other tricks.

The second is that the girl who put her profile is scamming you but the site is not aware of it. A scammer in this situation can ruin the reputation of the web site.

The first way to protect yourself is to never send a girl money. Do not vollunteer to do this. If she is not a scammer she would probobly refuse it anyway. If she asks you for money then stop communicating now and find someone else.

If she says she would like to come to America and visit you she is probobly trying to get money from you. It is virtually impossible for a Russian women to come to America without a K1 (fiance visa) or a K3 (visa used by married couples). Russian women find it almost impossible to get a tourist visa to the US.

Ask her for her phone number and address. If she won't give it to you there is something wrong. If she does't have a home, phone which she may not, most Russians now have cell phones.

If you get the phone number find someone who lives nearby who can translate for you if she does not speak English and call her at home. That way she won't be preasured into saying things by the marriage agency.

After a few letters if you are feeling good about the situation you might ask the agency to deliver flowers to her and ask to have a picture taken of her receiving the flowers. This will help prove that she really exiists. Send some pictures of yourself with family members and ask her to do the same.

There are lots of recources on the Internet that help you avoid being scammed. Type in Google : Russian bride scam or Russain dating scam and you will finc many links. Some of these web sites list the names of the scamers and have copies of letters that they sent. There are several Youtube.com videos exposing the pictures of scammers. Some of the websites list the names of the scammers and where they live.

I visited my wife in Russia four times before bringing her to America and she would not let me pay for anything except meals in restaurants. We communicated for a year and a half before she cam to the US and she never asked me for anything and I never sent her any money. I did have flowers delivered to her apartment.

It is easy to be scammed but it is also easy to not be scammed it you take the necessary steps.
